Why did Michael Jordan retire in 1998 after winning an NBA Championship?

explanation 1 - He wanted to leave the game as a champion!

Then why did he come back to play only a few years later with Washington?....even MJ knew he could'nt will the Wizards to victory...right?

explanation 2 - He grew bored after winning 6 NBA championships. How could a player who the media says is "the most competitive " Athlete ever! get bored after winning only 6 NBA championships?...6 NBA championships is not that many when you compare it to Bill russells 11(Bill won 8 in a row and never got bored)...or Magic Johnsons 9 NBA Final appearances and 5 Titles in a much tougher era of the 80's!....would'nt the "Most competitive athlete ever" want to win as many Titles as possible?....even shatter the NBA record!...

explanation 3 - His fued with bulls GM Jerry krause reached the boiling point!...and Jordan "Retired" again!..becuz his ego was bigger then his competitivness or his "love of the game!"

He retired because basketball was getting in the way of his real career making commercials.

Because Micheal wanted to go as a winner.
Where'd your "Top Contributor" badge go?Oh that's right, you LOST IT up your weak @$$ while you was jacking off with Kobe!
I remember it like yesterday, like a nightmare. Phil Jackson decided to change teams and MJ said: "No Jackson, No Jordan". Probably he felt he reached it all too, but never underestimate the urge to perform, that's why he returned a little later ... But I'm sure that a minor detail was Krause's way of doing things too!
Because he was getting old you DUMBASS! Don't you have something better to do then clone me %26amp; bash MJ? Get a life!

KOBE BRYANT SUCKS!
I'm surprised that you didnt say, because he was so intmidated by Kobe Bryant! He retired because he wanted to retire.
At that point I think he thought he was done... he's done all he needs to do. What a way to end a career right? I think his passion for basketball willed him to play again for the Wizards. I'll never forget his final game.
Once you win it's hard to get any better.
I think more than anything he felt that he wanted to retire while he was still at the top. However, he most likely missed the game he loved so much enough to come back even though he knew it would be hopeless. In the end, it's just pride.
He retired because he wanted to. He retired because he didn't want to play for another coach. When Krause decided to dismember the Bulls, including problems with Coach Phil Jackson leading to Jackson's retirement, Jordan retired.
